Quote for the week of 9/24/08

"Strive for excellence, not perfection." H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Ahhh...how many of us are "perfectionists?" How often do we achieve perfection? Likely by our standards not often. Seeking perfection is a long, disappointing road. It creates frustration, anxiety, fear, and unhappiness. Most perfectionists are extremely critical, especially towards themselves. That drive can also impact those around them. Breath, deeply. Do it again. And again. Now focus on the difference in excellence and perfection. Which feels lighter? Which feels obtainable? What do you excell in now? What do you desire to excell in? Remember, we learn more from mistakes than successes!

I needed to hear this tonight. It did exactly what you describe here. It made me feel lighter and breathe easier. It's like it lifts a weight off that is not even realistic. I rarely get caught up in perfection any more but I did a bit this week without realizing it. It was almost like I thought I had to be all things to all people or I was less than perfect. It wasn't so much about a specific thing but more of an overall thing. I can't be all things to all people and have to let go and just do the best I can. I know this may not make sense in relation to what you wrote here but it really made sense to me when I read it. LOL In other words I get to let go and just do the best I can but not be neurotic about it. LOL :) :) Thank you, Tara --- good to visit you again I'd missed being here. :)
